Car Maintenance Tips To Make Your Life EasierAuthor: Theresa Pagnani
Most people plan on keeping their car for a long time, unless they like to lease them and frequently switch them out. But either way, maintaining the vehicle should be your top priority. Having car issues is the last thing you need during a long, hectic work day, so let us make it easier for you by giving you a few tips to avoid any problems!
- Oil change. Getting the oil changed in your vehicle on a regular basis is the best thing you can do for your car. If you neglect this need then you can severely damage your car to the point where it is no longer able to function. Whether you change the oil yourself or you get it done at a service center or shop, ask them to check the filters and change them if necessary.
- Other fluids and oils. Always check your vehicle's fluids and oils. Make sure that your transmission fluid has not gone bad and if it needs to be flushed, then do so. Good transmission fluid is usually a bright red color and it turns darker the older it gets. Be sure to change all fluids on a regular basis, even if they look like they don't need to be changed. You should check them every time you go to get the vehicle serviced. Make sure your car is not leaking by being aware of the pavement underneath your car and seeing if the vehicle is leaving behind any fluids. If so, you should get your car in a shop as soon as you can.
- Exterior maintenance. Washing your car is more important than it may seem. Your car constantly collects oils and dirt from other cars and from the road, these substances can easily damage the paint if they're left on the car for long periods of time. Also, remember to wax your car. Waxing it gives it a protective layer and makes it easier to wash everything off of it because the dirt is on top of the wax and not on top of the actual paint.
- Brakes. There are many features about your brakes that you need to pay attention to. First is the brake fluid, without it your car won't break at all. Also, it easily absorbs moisture which causes erosion, so be sure to switch out the brake fluid every once in a while. Pay attention to any noises too, if the car screeches when you try and stop that is a sign that the brake pads are starting to get too thin from too much use. Make an appointment with the service department to get them replaced.
